Jerusalem, On May 3, 2026 (GGPI) :  The Government of Israel has approved a landmark defense procurement plan to acquire two new combat squadrons of advanced fighter aircraft, including F-35 and F-15IA jets, in a deal valued at tens of billions of dollars. The decision was authorized by the Ministerial Committee on Procurement as part of a broader 350 billion shekel ($119 billion) initiative aimed at strengthening Israel’s military capabilities over the coming decade.

The procurement includes a fourth squadron of F-35 aircraft from Lockheed Martin and a second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing. This investment marks a critical step in maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge and ensuring long-term strategic air superiority in a rapidly evolving regional security environment.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that a significant portion of the expanded defense budget will be directed toward domestic munitions production, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. He also highlighted plans to develop innovative, next-generation aircraft technologies within Israel.

These aircraft will reinforce Israel’s overwhelming air superiority,” said Prime Minister Netanyahu. “Israel is stronger than ever, and it must always remain far stronger than its adversaries.”

Defense Ministry Director General Amir Baram underscored the strategic importance of the procurement, noting that it addresses both immediate operational needs and long-term force development goals.

“We have a responsibility to act now to secure the Israel Defense Forces’ military edge for the next decade and beyond,” Baram stated. “Recent regional conflicts have reinforced the critical importance of advanced air power and the strength of the U.S.-Israel strategic partnership.”

The deal builds on a December agreement in which Boeing was awarded an $8.6 billion contract for 25 F-15IA aircraft, with an option to procure an additional 25 jets.

This procurement represents a significant technological leap,” said Minister Katz. “It will enhance capabilities in autonomous flight, next-generation defense systems, and expand Israel’s operational reach, including in the space domain.”

The next phase of the process involves finalizing agreements with the United States government and relevant defense partners.

Israel remains committed to ensuring that its armed forces are equipped with the most advanced tools and capabilities to operate effectively in any scenario, at any time.
